Since 2013, efforts had been made at the University of Kansas to establish the ideals of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc.  In the spring of 2014 we were ultimately invited to present before the Multicultural Greek Council and from that point on, commenced our journey towards establishing our entity on campus.  After getting the vote of confidence by the member organizations at KU’s Multicultural Greek Council, we had hit the ground running and developed great recruitment strategies that yielded many potential candidates.  While many showed interest to endure the challenges of being part of the founding line, only 5 gentlemen were determined to complete the arduous process of induction, therefore becoming the KU’s five distinguished Founding Brothers.

On May 2, 2014, Luis “Jay Halcon” Avila, Orlando “Suma” Galaviz, Andy “San Andres” Martinez, Ramiro “Diplimatico” Sarmiento, and Jesus “Totchili” Sanchez, known as Los Leones de Kansas, were introduced on campus as Founding Brothers of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc.!  These exemplary men who demonstrated strength, embodied integrity, and developed friendship looked to continue promoting the ideals of Pan-Americanism on KU campus.  The strong foundation set by these Brothers, along with the strong support of our local Alumni and our National Management team, have helped to attract many distinguished gentlemen of diverse backgrounds to follow in their footsteps and join the ranks of Brotherhood.

GO JAWHAWKS!
